Roy Schuiten GP Lugano and Grand Prix des Nations 1975 TI-Raleigh Bike

Back in March 2018, a short but interesting email dropped into my Inbox…

I am the son off Roy Schuiten.
I recently found a time trial bike off my fathers. I want to share some pictures and thoughts with you.

That was it, short and sweet, but I was intrigued and answered…

Jan Raas JR 1 78 T SBDU Ilkeston TI-Raleigh Track Frame

My TI-Raleigh SBDU 2019 Projects: Jan Raas JR178T Reynolds 531 Double Butted Track Frame

This frame has eventually made it to the top of my list of projects. This is a Jan Raas frame and it has waited too long; the yellow Chesini paint and transfers have to go and the classic TI-Raleigh colours with detailed Fischer fork crown and Carlton Capella lugs have to come back.

A Review of My SBDU and TI-Raleigh 2018 Ramblings

Last year took a very different direction to 2017; that year was all about snapping up everything I could find, and 14 frames was clear evidence of that eagerness. All I remember from 2017 was the expense and the amount of blogging required. But from the outset of 2018, it was all about focus, focus focus focus! It’s hard turning down frames, frames that I would normally take without a second thought, but my collection is wide ranging, and I wanted to concentrate on frames that had either some special interest or features, originality or frames that filled an existing gap.

I think I did ok.

Motor Paced Stayer Frame and Fork

Motor Paced Stayer – Could it be a Jan le Grand Build for TI-Raleigh Rider René Pijnen

I’m going to make a bold statement right at the beginning of this blog post… my theory is that this Stayer frame could be a frame built by Jan le Grand for TI-Raleigh team rider René Pijnen – now all I have to do is use the rest of this post to try and convince myself of that!

TI-Raleigh 1980 Team Bike Specification SBDU SB4059 Campagnolo Super Record

TI-Raleigh Joop Zoetemelk Team Bike Specification from SBDU

I’m frequently asked about the specification of TI-Raleigh’s team bikes. The most popular search terms I see on my blog stats and the most viewed blog posts relate to ‘specifications’. However, the question about specification isn’t an easy question to answer by any means! Professional teams, not just TI-Raleigh, had a range of kit they would use. Each race was different and each stage of each race was different. Different gear ratios were used, different derailleurs, different rims, different tubs, depending on the road surface, conditions and stage type. Each rider was also different. So how do you answer that question when there are so many variables?
